The French Government Defence procurement agency invests €900,000 towards Pherecydes Pharma managed €1.2-million project, involving several university and military laboratories.
Pherecydes Pharma is attending the Forum coorganised by PHAG ESPOIRS and LE LIEN associations, as well as their partners, Narbonne Hospital and City, on January 25, 2012 in Narbonne - France, at 9h15, in Le Théatre.
Biotech Finance press details the purpose of this investiment targeting the set up of a phage bioproduction unit and testing of 2 therapeutic products in human clinical trials.
Meeting the Belgian biotech companies at the 2011 Forum Bio-Entrepreneurs held in the Bourse de Commerce de Paris, December 6, 2011.
R&D strategy
Pherecydes Pharma is specialized in research and development of lytic bacteriophages (or phages) for therapeutic and diagnostic - theranostics - applications. The company offers innovative and evolutive solutions to multi-resistant bacteria via the preparation of natural phage cocktails and their in vitro accelerated evolution.
Natural bacteriophages
|
With its unique expertise in the characterization and isolation of lytic natural phage, Pherecydes Pharma has developed a large bank of phage cocktails for fighting antibiotic-resistant infections, which increase steadily since the 80s.
The Company owns the widest collection of phages against Escherichia coli, and also works on Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus species: these three bacteria alone account for more than 50% of infections in industrialized countries.

Variant bacteriophages
Pherecydes Pharma currently holds three patents to protect the variant phage technology. Pherecydes Pharma is the only company in the world to master this evolution technology: a step ahead vis-a-vis the bacterial natural mechanism of evolution.
- TAPE is a method for creating high diversity in DNA sequences while keeping intact domains.Globaly TAPE is set for optimizing any kind of proteins through targeted accelerated engineered evolution.
- AB-ACCUS is a rapid and efficient technology to produce phage banks in which every individual differs from all others.
- RIPh is a methodology allowing reversible interruption of virulent phage lytic cycle.
The company, which sets up a standardized and certified industrialization scale of phages, plans to enter clinical trials with its first products by the end of 2013. The first therapeutic product is currently in preclinical testing in animals.
Beyond health markets, the technologies of Pherecydes Pharma may also apply to nanotechnology and biodefense.
